More Dogs and Landscapes

Black dog, Oil 11x14. This is my problem - painting a black dog on black canvas. The dog is from a picture of a facebook friend's dog. I did her dog Taz awhile ago and she has another dog and takes really good pictures. I am always looking for good pictures. This had its problems, but was fun to paint and made me work.

Landscape off of Hwy 101, Oil 11x14. This is from my head, once again it is what I see when going down hwy 101, the farmland, not quite sure what they are planting.

Cows and the Coast, Oil 8x8. This is from a smaller painting without the cows, it is what I see when driving down hwy 1 along the coast.

Norman

Norman, Oil 8"x 8" After painting two other dogs for an owner and having them a little tighter then I like and not so goofy. I got this photo from something posted on facebook ... no commission. I love it, I call him Norman cause he looks like a Norman....could be anything. This painting was fun, it is loose, off center, and has a crazy background, all of which makes this a more lively painting. I can't seem to do this with every dog I paint, but when it happens I just love it.

Duke

SOLD
Duke, oil 8x10. Boy what a good looking dog. After doing 50 small landscapes I had a hard time jumping back into painting bigger and other subjects, that why I painted the three little panels prior to this, and it help in doing this one. Tried to stay loose with bold brush strokes.

New Painting Sketch

This is a sketch in oil I did the other night at a painting and drawing group I had in my studio. When I am just playing around I like to make oil sketches on canvas torn from a canvas pad, not on a panel. I tape the loose canvas on some plastic, paint it with a colored gesso (normally black) and sketch away. This was a still life apple I had set up for the group, it's about 5x7. When this drys I can and have in the past framed these small sketches under glass. SOLD

Two Landscapes

Abstract Trail, oil 6x6. This is from my mind and is what I see when walking the trail out at Ano Neuvo State reserve. In the fall and spring there are all kinds of colors and shapes popping up. This is very loose and abstract. SOLD

Forest Fog, oil 8x8. This is from a cropped photo I had of a forest with fog coming in. This is hard to pull off, this was a painting done before I did a smaller one for the 50 paintings in 50 day show. This one came across, I get it, but the smaller one I don't think worked as well. Oh well,

Two dogs and a landscape

Below are a few current paintings. Some come easy and some are really a problem. I am doing a dog now, not shown here, and it is my third attempt and still nothing I would show. I took a picture to post (the third one), but once I saw the picture I just can't say it's right. I keep removing the paint and re doing....... it's not as easy as it looks............

Oil 6x6 SOLD

This little dog was in our newpaper, a story on the large amount of small dogs up for adaption. This one was waiting. Oil 6x6

New Paintings

At Christmas I was down at Santa Barbara this is small painting of a photo I took from my phone.
Oil 8x8

Small Oil Sketch 4x4

Small Oil Sketch 4x4

This is from a friends photo of her cat, not sure I have the eyes right yet.
Oil 6x6

This is a blue dog done from a great black and white photo of a dog named Jake. I did a smaller 11x14 in true colors of the dog, which the owners liked, but I thought I would play around some more, since it was such a great photo. This is like the great photo of Taz I got to paint,  the dog posted awhile ago. It makes all the difference when you get a great photo, and the dog has some kind of feeling. Both Jake and Taz have passed away, boy what cool dogs. Not sure what I'm doing with the background yet.
In process, Oil 20x 20
